Life Beyond Social Media

As most of you know, October 4th was a day without social media for many people. Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp were all down and I believe it was a good lesson for us. The hot topic in many of my circles was "How will we communicate without Instagram?" The simple answer - Instagram isn't the end all be all, nor is it the only way to connect.

There are other ways to stay in touch with our friends, customers, and favorite small shops. I posted this graphic on my Instagram and wanted to share it here too. Take a screen shot, write it down, and know that if Instagram went away tomorrow I would miss you all and want to stay in touch.

With all the issues that Instagram and Facebook are having in regards to fake accounts, personal info being stolen, it could all be gone tomorrow, etc. I started thinking about how I wanted to connect with my customers. Some people have moved over to Patreon (and I considered it), but I don't feel that it would be authentic for me. For now I will be deactivating my Facebook business page, but keeping the Sea.lestial.shel Instagram account going.

I decided to use this space as a way to connect on a more personal level with my customers and followers. Here I will share sneaks of upcoming products, what's new in the shop, collaborations with other creators, and a bit of my personal creative space. I may also share whatever thoughts and ideas pop into my Gemini mind!

I will also be communicating more through my newsletter, so make sure you've signed up to get the latest news delivered directly to your inbox. I know what you're thinking, another newsletter ... trust me, I'm right there with you and that's why I can promise you that you will not get more than 1 email per week from me. Actually, if I'm being realistic you will probably receive closer to 2-3 emails per month.

I'd love to know your thoughts on how you like to stay in touch with your favorite small business. Leave a comment on this post or send me and email at sea.lestial.shel@gmail.com
